Aljaz Vidmar
From a young age, I have been fascinated by technology and problem-solving. Growing up in a small village in Vojsko, Slovenia, I was always curious about how things worked, which led me to study electrical engineering at the Electrotechnical & Computer Technical School in Ljubljana. During this time, I gained hands-on experience designing electronic circuits, programming microcontrollers like Siemens, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino, and working with electrical systems. These experiences sparked my passion for technology and set the stage for my journey into computer science.
My academic path has evolved across multiple institutions, each helping me build my knowledge and skills. I initially studied Computer Engineering at Howard University before realizing my true passion for programming. This led me to earn an associate degree in STEM at Montgomery College. Now, as a computer science major at Mars Hill University, I’ve had the opportunity to explore advanced topics like data structures, operating systems, database management, and web development, all while maintaining a high academic standard.

Outside of academics, basketball has been a significant part of my life. My commitment to the sport earned me a full scholarship to play at the collegiate level, where I could pursue higher education in the U.S. As a student-athlete, I learned valuable lessons in discipline, resilience, and leadership—traits that have been beneficial both in sports and in my academic journey. Serving as a team captain, I developed strong teamwork and communication skills, which have translated into my work in technology and software development.
In addition to my studies and basketball career, I’ve sought hands-on experience in the tech field. I interned at manufacturing firms in Slovenia, performing quality control and data analysis on components for electric motors. At Mars Hill University, I worked in IT, providing technical support, resolving network issues, and managing hardware installations. I also freelance as a WordPress developer, creating customized websites for clients.
Recently, I have developed a keen interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning. I’ve been studying the theoretical foundations of AI, experimenting with machine learning models, and exploring real-world applications such as natural language processing. I’m also interested in blockchain technology and how AI can be integrated into decentralized systems to enhance security, scalability, and automation.
Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a Master’s in AI and Machine Learning, with the goal of contributing to advancements in intelligent systems and automation. I am eager to explore how AI technology can push boundaries and make a meaningful impact on the world.
